The type of insulation, the thickness and the construction detailing will affect the thermal  performance of the building envelope.
A compact building form will also help achieve Passivhaus standard; a reduced ratio between a building's envelope and it's volume will reduce heat loss through the fabric. Therefore a terraced house will require less thermal insulation than a bungalow.
